Implementation of the autoperceptual questionnaire and perceptual scale as instruments of subjective evaluation of voice in children
Abstract
Introduction: children dysphonia is often the beginning of the natural evolution of a chronic problem. Child voice evaluation is a subjective assessment of the child's voice by the physician, in which are used as instruments questionnaires and scales that allow perceptual awareness of vocal problems in infants and teach them with hearing their own voice, to control the voice, at the same time that prevent future complications and relapses.
Objective: to implement the auto perceptual questionnaire and perceptual scale as subjective evaluation instruments of voice to children's ages.
Method: a cross-sectional study was carried out from January 2010 to December 2011 in Majagua municipality, with a child population of 1 886 patients from four to six years of age, of which a stratified random sample of 699 patients was selected.
Results: 263 children had some speech problem and 436 children have no problems in their voices. The sensitivity of the questionnaire was 0,72, specificity of 0,91 and internal consistency was 0,99; the scale had a sensitivity of 0,84, specificity of 0,97 and an internal consistency of 0,86.
Conclusions: the reliability and effectiveness of the auto perceptual questionnaire and perceptual scale as instruments of subjective evaluation of voice in children's ages were demonstrated. The positive likelihood ratio of the scale was greater than the questionnaire, so that the scale has the greatest potential for diagnosing the presence of vocal problems.
