Introduction: population aging is a global phenomenon that represents a challenge for governments and health systems. In Cuba, it is a social achievement and one of the current issues of attention due to its rapid rise.
Objective: to evaluate the components of the structure and process of the community subprogram for the elderly at the North University Polyclinic of Ciego de Ávila.
Methods: an investigation was carried out in health systems and services, with qualitative design, between June 2018 and May 2019. The structure and process components were evaluated. The criteria, sub-criteria and indicators were developed based on the current national program. From a universe of 4,171 older adults, an intentional sample of 70 was selected. In addition, 40 health workers took part. Ethical principles were met.
Results: the female sex (58,90 %) and the ages of 60 to 64 years (21,40 %) predominated. The structure component was adequate, with criteria met between 90.00 % and 100, 00%. The process component was inadequate, with five criteria not met: promotional and preventive actions (87,20 %), interconsultations (54,30 %), education and training (87,50 %), community participation (60,00 %), and research (12,90 %). Overall, compliance with the subprogram was classified as inadequate. Deviations are classified as problems of functionality, and of competence and performance.
Conclusions: the subprogram was evaluated as inadequate due to the process component, where non-compliances were identified. These results can constitute a scientific support in decision makingDownloads
