Introduction: chest radiography plays a fundamental role in the evaluation and monitoring of radiological patterns in patients diagnosed with COVID-19, which allows readjustments in treatment protocols.
Objective: to characterize the clinical findings and the evolution of radiological patterns in patients diagnosed with COVID-19.
Methods: cross-sectional descriptive study at the Cuban Hospital in Qatar, between April 2020 and March 2021 from an intentional sample made up of 439 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 who underwent chest X-rays during hospitalization. Variables were studied; age, sex, type of radiological pattern, severity index, complications, number of x-rays during the evolution and lesion resolution time.
Results: there was a predominance of patients aged between 30 and 44 years, female with a typical radiological pattern, which mostly evolved with a mild severity index. The prevailing complication was respiratory distress. More than half of the patients required up to four x-rays in their follow-up and the largest number of patients with radiological lesions required up to fifteen days for their resolution. Conclusions: the results of this work emphasize the need to evaluate evolutionary radiographs, if we keep in mind the type of radiological pattern and the clinical condition of the patient, which will make it possible to reduce overexposure to ionizing radiation in hospitalized patients and focus on the different therapeutic schemes proposed depending on this evolution
