Evaluation of control algorithm for prostate cancer at the North University Polyclinic of Ciego de Ávila. Year 2014
Abstract
Introduction: around one million of persons sick of prostate cancer are diagnosed annually in the world. Early detection of the disease allows a better prognosis; but this requires that health professionals have the necessary information and knowledge, appropriate material conditions, and the prevention programs and health promotion are strictly observed.
Objective: to assess compliance with the control algorithm of prostate cancer in the Basic Working Group No.2 of the North University Polyclinic of Ciego de Ávila from January to December 2014.
Method: an investigation in health systems and services was carried out. The selection of the sample had not probabilistic and intentional character and consisted of 15 basic health teams located in the offices of Basic Working Group No.2. Guidelines for data collection were prepared.
Results: most basic health teams were unaware of the control algorithm of prostate cancer, clinics lacked of gloves for performing the digital rectal examination and were detected deficiencies in the active investigation by prostate-specific antigen test and in the application of the classification system algorithm.
Conclusions: the deficiencies in compliance with the control algorithm of prostate cancer in the Basic Working Group No.2 of the North University Polyclinic affect the operation of the program, hindering early diagnosis and treatment of patients and worsen the prognosis of the disease.Downloads
