Control of the Psychological Response in the Pediatric Surgical Patient
Keywords:
Preparación preoperatoria, respuesta psicológica, trauma quirúrgico y anestésicoAbstract
The preoperative preparation of children has been widely published in the medical and psychological literature, it is estimated that about (78 %) of the major Pediatric Hospitals the world over, offer preparation programs for the children and their parents. In like manner, many studies suggest that anxiety is reduced and cooperation is increased in the preparation of children who have previously been anesthetized. These programs may supply narrated information, orientation visits at the Surgical Units in a direct fashion or indirectly by means of didactic and educative videos, role play using dolls, puppet shows in order to prepare the child’s behavior, as well as classes in order to develop relaxation skills in both children and parents; among other methods, Many studies suggest that the preparation of children who have previously been anesthetized for some kind of surgical procedure considerably reduce anxiety and increase cooperation. The consideration of the surgical and anesthetic event as a vital crisis within psychology renders necessary to think over the topic and its ethical and social implications, esp. when dealing with children to undergo surgery.Downloads
