Method: an experimental study was carried out. The universe covered the affected population and the sample was composed of 172 patients who met the inclusion criteria; they were divided into two treatment groups (Group A: laser and removal of the prosthesis; Group B: removal of the apparatus).
Conclusions: the incidence of the disease was 31,13%; It was observed more frequently in females in the age group of 60 and over; anatomic location was in the upper jaw. At the time of study, all patients wore prostheses longer time than established for replacement; most of them were asymptomatic and had inadequate oral hygiene habits.
