Well-differentiated papillary adenocarcinoma of the gallbladder

A sequence of pathological images of a well-differentiated papillary adenocarcinoma of the gallbladder is presented (Fig. 1), corresponding to a 54-year-old female patient with a preoperative diagnosis of acute lithiasis cholecystitis or gallbladder carcinoma. Panel A presents the photographic image of the macroscopic examination of the piece, where a mass of tissue measuring 8 x 6 x 3 cm is observed. The presence of abundant fibrinopurulent material can be observed, with a grayish-white area that in its center presents a 1cm stone formation that appears to infiltrate up to the serosa. In panels B and C, microscopic examination shows the presence of papillary formations that infiltrate the muscular layer. The results of the biopsy (B-2294-19) confirm the presence of a well-differentiated papillary adenocarcinoma of the gallbladder. The adenocarcinoma of Gallbladder is the main malignant neoplasm of the bile ducts, it is rare and its clinical diagnosis prior to surgical intervention.
