Diagnostic utility of ultrasound in Prostatic Neoplasms in Ciego de Avila Provincial Hospital.
Abstract
A descriptive and observational study was carried out to determine the usefulness of sonography in the prostatic neoplasms diagnosis. The sample universe consisted of 52 patients, who were referred to the radiology unit at "Dr. Antonio Luaces Iraola" Provincial General Teaching Hospital from March 2009 to February 2011, with clinical presumptions of prostatic cancer, to which underwent suprapubic abdominal ultrasound, and in the case the patient permitted, transrectal ultrasonography, was used intracavitary transducer for rectal examination; subsequently took biopsy sample. In the study black skin patients predominated and the age group of 60-69 years. The most frequent clinical manifestations were low obstructive urinary symptoms, nocturia and hematuria. In sonographic findings the texture of heterogeneous gland predominated with prostatic capsule integrity, regular contour, normal glandular volume, like the presence of calcifications, there was a greater frequency of single lesions, hypoechogenic, peripheral without extension to neighbors areas. Ultrasound-histological correlation was found in the majority of studied cases, no significant difference with relatively high sensitivity and specificity and acceptable positive predictive powerDownloads
