Clinical and epidemiological characteristics of dry eye syndrome in Policlinic “Federico Capdevila” during the year 2010.
Abstract
The dry eye syndrome is a frequent affection in Ophthalmology consultations. A descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out during the year 2010 in “Federico Capdevila” Policlinic, Havana, with the objective of characterizing clinical and epidemiologically this entity, in patients belonging to this health area. The variables age, sex, symptoms and signs, time of rupture of the lachrymal film, results of the Schirmer I Test and risk factors associated to this disease. The universe was constituted by 200 patients with suspicion of dry eye that arrived to consultation during the signal period and the sample of 62 patients with confirmed diagnosis. The affection prevailed from 60 years on (45,2%) and mostly in women (59,7%), the more frequent symptoms and signs were the dry eye feeling (40,3%) and the conjuntival hyperemia (32,3%), time of rupture of the lachrymal film and Schirmer I Test were positive in most of the patients and ocular diseases (32,3%) prevailed as main risk factor associated to dry eye.Downloads
