Comportamiento de la infección por el virus de la hepatitis C en el Hospital Provincial de Ciego de Ávila durante el quinquenio 2005-2010

Abstract

Se realizó un estudio observacional descriptivo en el área sur de la Provincia de Ciego de Ávila, el cual incluyó todos los pacientes mayores de 20 años, a los cuales se les detectó un anticuerpo contra el virus de la hepatitis C (Anti-VHC) positivo en suero y que fueron atendidos en la consulta especializada de hepatología del Hospital Provincial General Docente “Dr. Antonio Luaces Iraola”, durante el período comprendido de enero del 2005 a enero del 2010. Fueron diagnosticados un total de 101 pacientes, en los cuales la infección se presentó con mayor frecuencia en el sexo masculino con 51 casos (50.4%) y predominó en el grupo etáreo comprendido entre los 40-49 años con 32 (31.6%). De los 101 pacientes infectados, 5 (4.9%) debutaron como una hepatitis aguda, 42 (41.5 %) habían desarrollado una hepatitis crónica y 43 (42.5%) presentaban ya, una cirrosis hepática al momento del diagnóstico. Solo 11 pacientes (10.8%) eran portadores crónicos asintomáticos del anticuerpo contra el virus de la hepatitis C (Anti-VHC) positivo. La vía de transmisión más importante de la infección fue la parenteral, recogiéndose en 49 pacientes (48.5%), el antecedente de haber sido intervenido quirúrgicamente y en 23 (22.7%), el de haber sido politransfundidos. En 13 casos (12.8%), no se pudo precisar la posible vía de adquisición de la enfermedad
