Deforming oral habits and its possible influence on post-lactic plan in children with temporary dentition
Abstract
An epidemiological, analytical study of cases and controls in children among 3-5 years of day-care centers belonging to the health area of the teaching stomatological clinic, Ciego de Avila city, from September 2010 to June 2011, to determine the presence of deforming oral habits and their influence on the post-lactic plan. The study group was formed by 305 children enrolled in this course. The analysed variables were: age, gender, types of habits, occlusal relation and the characteristics of the post-lactic plan. It was concluded that a quarter of the studied children were carriers of deforming oral habits, and the increased frequency of them was observed at 4 years of age. Sex showed no statistical association. Digital suction was the most frequent. These habits were associated with statistical significance to the occlusal alterations and the post-lactic plan. Educational activities to prevent and eradicate these habits were recommended.Downloads
