Corneal abscess in a patient with optic keratoplasty. Case report
Abstract
Introduction: a corneal abscess of considerable magnitude can cause severe damage to the visual organ if it is not treated in a timely and adequate manner; It causes a decrease in vision that is related to the loss of transparency of the cornea and the probable involvement of neighboring structures, which leads to failure of the corneal graft.
Objective: to describe the evolution of a patient with an extensive abscess in a transplanted cornea.
Case presentation: 54-year-old female with a pathological history of reticular stromal corneal dystrophy and optical perforating keratoplasty surgery in the left eye six years ago; the patient developed a corneal abscess in that eye caused by a pathogenic coagulase-negative staphylococcus. Treatment was partially successful in maintaining the integrity of the eyeball, but with partial loss of transparency of the corneal graft
