Educational intervention to identify and control cognitive impairment in elderly of Ciego de Avila
Abstract
Cognitive decline reduce intellectual functions of the elderly, is an entity that is increasing globally, in which mental abilities are lost. In this research an educational intervention is implemented with the aim of identifying cognitive disorders in the elderly from Belkis Sotomayor area of Ciego de Ávila, to undergo a rehabilitation regimen based on the joining activities that will improve their social exchanges; the evolution after a year was evaluated. From a comparative pre-experimental and observational before-after design, from 100 subjects older than 60 years, which constituted the population, who were administered the Folstein, Folstein instrument to discriminate individuals with impairment, who were 25, that were compared with an equal number of a homogeneous control group; the sample was 50 people. The most relevant characteristics of the affected population were: age over 80 years, most frequency in women, a few motivation andrecreation; lack of responsibilities; an educational intervention was applied to these people based on instructional, recreation activities in Community Mental Health Centers; Study subjects were evaluated who mostly were stable after 12 months of surgery.
