Selection process of the admitted pupils into the Medicine Faculty of Benguela, Angola

Abstract

Objective: To analyze the results of selection process to the Medicine career in the medicine faculty of Katyavala Bwila University, in 2012. Methods: Study of cross, descriptive and analytical section in population of 972 candidates who presented themselves to the selection process. Results: Most of the candidates were feminine, residents in Benguela province and they were coming from the average Institutes of Health, and from the pre-university education. The obtained qualifications were between zero and nine on 20 points. From 80 admitted candidates, the feminine sex was also the majority, being the life expectancy of 22 years, proceeding from the pre-university education and from the average institutes of health. The minimum grade of the admitted students was 13 and the maximun was 17 points. The main motivation for the election of the medicine course was to help to improve the population health, followed by the possibility of having a stable employment and achieving economic safety and social recognition. Most of the interrogated persons recounted to feel much satisfied with the admission process. Conclusions: Big demand exists for the entry to medicine career (12 candidates for post). For the notes obtained in the admission proces, it can be inferred that the chosen ones have an acceptable academic preparation for the Medicine Course. Most of the interrogated persons recounted to feel much satisfied with the selection process.
