Characterization of preterm delivery in Ciego de Ávila municipality
Abstract
The premature birth constitutes a problem of worldwide health, it represents the 75% of morbility and infant mortality. With the aim of evaluating the distribution, frequency and principal risks factors that condition the appearing of premature childbirths in Ciego de Ávila municipality, a descriptive study was carried out. The universe was composed of every woman that presented a premature childbirth in years understood from 2009 to 2012 in Ciego de Ávila municipality; the results were represented with absolute numbers and percentages. Principal results were: the premature birth has a frequency of approximately over 6,0% for the study years; it was presented in ages between 18 and 34 years; the 72, 1% of the premature childbirths total occurred with a gestational age among 34 and 36 weeks; over half of the newborn weighed 2500g; the 55, 6% of premature childbirths was spontaneous. Principal causes were vaginal and urinary infections, the abortion antecedent and previous pregnancies of premature childbirths, as well as it was found the maternal deficient weight, the habit to smoke, hypertension and the heavy low profit during pregnancy.Downloads
