Introduction: the microbiological diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 is vital to confront the COVID-19 pandemic, both due to its clinical and epidemiological implication, which is why methods have been developed for its diagnosis that include: SARS-CoV-2 antigen detection, polymerase chain reaction test and detection of antibodies against SARS-CoV-2.
Objective: to determine the diagnostic efficacy of the SARS-CoV-2 antigen rapid detection test for the diagnosis of pediatric patients with respiratory symptoms admitted to the isolation center of the University of Medical Sciences of Camagüey in the period from June to July. of 2021.
Methods: the diagnostic efficacy was determined by estimating the sensitivity, specificity, predictive value and efficacy of the SARS-CoV-2 rapid antigen detection test. which was contrasted with the real-time polymerase chain reaction test for diagnosis of COVID-19, in a universe of 57 pediatric patients with respiratory symptoms admitted to the isolation center of the University of Medical Sciences of Camagüey from June to July 2021.
Results: the diagnostic sensitivity was 100 %, the specificity was 42.86 %, the positive predictive value was 84.31 %, the negative predictive value was 100% and the efficacy was 85.96 %.
Conclusions: The SARS-CoV-2 antigen rapid detection test was effective for the diagnosis of COVID-19 in pediatric patients with respiratory symptoms within the first seven days after the onset of symptoms.Downloads
