Acupuncture, an alternative for the beginning of the obstetric labor in pregnant women with long pregnancy
Abstract
A pre-experimental study of a group was carried out to evaluate the effect of the acupuncture in the beginning of the obstetric labor in patients with normal long pregnancy, admitted at the Perinatal Care Service at "Capitán Roberto Rodriguez Fernández" General Teaching Hospital in Moron, between January, 2008 to October, 2010.The universe was constituted by pregnant with diagnosis of normal long pregnancy admitted in the period and place mentioned before, remaining constituted the sample by 173 that fulfilled the pre established requirement for the study. The treatment consisted of three acupuncture meetings using the points Ig4, E36 and B6. Initiated the obstetric labor it was interruptedthe skill and another monitoring protocol if necessary it was expected 24 hours. At the end of the study, it was found that the biggest frequency of patients with long pregnancy ranged between 19–34 years presenting more in nulliparous women and white race. The biggest percent of pregnants needed three acupuncture treatment meetings to initiate the obstetric labor; the answer to the treatment was satisfactory in most of the cases. Adverse reactions were not brought and only a minority of the pregnant women did not remain satisfied with the applied therapeutic.
