The Ritchie technique for the diagnosis of protozoa was evaluated, and ether was substituted for naphtha. As many as 400 sample collections were analized and compared with the results obtained from the direct protozoa test as well as those of the Ritchie technique with ether and naphtha.
Such results showed the usefulness of the Ritchie technique in which ether is substituted for naphtha in the diagnosis of protozoa. As much as 18.0% were tested positive by means of the Ritchie technique and 11.5% by means of the direct test. This tecnique is simple and well-known, and few resources are needed, so it can help improve diagnosis.
