Abstract

Introduction: the Cuban child and adolescent population shows favorable oral health indicators.

Objective: to describe the fulfillment of some indicators of curative dental care in the population under 19 years of age in Ciego de Ávila province during 2014-2018.

Methods: a descriptive cross-sectional study in the estimated total annual population of children under 19 years of age. It was valued according to the projected national indicators, based on the existing statistical information. The ethical precepts were fulfilled.

Results: 95.00 % of patients between one and four years old did not require treatment; those examined were exceeded in 2014 (114.59 %), 2017 (118.28 %) and 2018 (128.00 %); Completed care achieved better results in 2017 (91.00 %) and 2018 (98.90 %), these years with excellent care coverage. In 2015, 2017 and 2018, examinees aged five to 14 years exceeded 100 % and the income/discharge ratio was higher than 80 %, almost every year. From 15 to 18 years the entirety was never examined, the best result was in 2018 (94.70 %), this year with fewer patients who did not require treatment (64.16 %) and 2014 the one with the fewest completed care (78.40 %). The filling/extraction ratio in 2017 was the lowest (13.16 %). In 2018, endodontic treatments were the ones with the highest number (2727) and with the highest percentage of TPR (33.81 %).

Conclusions: the results were favorable. Coverage was above national purposes for ages one to four and five to 14 years.
