Influence of the psychological state of the acutely ill patient and his/her companion about the evolution and prognosis of the illness

A prospective, observational, descriptive study during 2003, the sample involve 84 children that were admitted to PICU in the General Provincial Hospital "Roberto Rodriguez" in Morón. The main objective was to know the psychosocial influencethat means the stay in the PICU on the patients and parents. In the 95,5% of the studied patients and their companions it was observed some psychological alteration, being anxiety in both cases the more frequent. In those older than 5 years anxiety, phobia and disagreement feeling prevailed. the mean stay was of 4,2 days whiles respiratory illness and among them bronchial asthma caused the greater psychological alteration, the number of complications were related to bad evolution and in a greater number of psychopathological alterations.Downloads
