Clinical-epidemiological profile of adults with metabolic syndrome in a Manzanillo doctor´s office
Abstract
Introduction: the metabolic syndrome constitutes one of the main health problems of the XXI century. Due to its high prevalence, it is considered a pandemic.
Objective: to characterize the patients with metabolic syndrome of the clinic No.1, from “Francisca Rivero” Polyclinic in Manzanillo, during the period September 2019 to May 2020.
Methods: a descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out. From a universe of 829, an intentional sample of 138 patients who met the defined diagnostic criteria was chosen. The prevalence was determined and some variables were studied. The information was obtained from individual medical records and family health records. During the study, the established ethical principles were met.
Results: the frequency of the metabolic syndrome was 16,60 %; predominated in women (63,77 %), in the ages between 51 and 60 years (31,88 %), in patients with a completed pre-university level (39,13 %), white skin color (52,17 %), who worked in the state sector (29,71 %) and with a personal pathological history of arterial hypertension (85,51 %); 78,90 % were obese. The mean abdominal waist in women was 83,50 cm, and 104,40 cm in men.
Conclusions: the prevalence in the office population was 16,60 %. It predominated in women, in the age group of 51 to 60 years, with completed pre-university level and work occupations in the state sector. Hypertension was the main pathological antecedent. The mean abdominal waist diameter was different in each sex. Most were considered obeseDownloads
