Determination of the psychosocial factors, enhancers of suicidal behavior in older adults
Abstract
A descriptive, cross-sectional observational study was carried out, with the objective of determining the presence of psychosocial factors, enhancers of suicidal behavior in older adults belonging to grandparents homes, in Ciego de Avila, from September 2009 to February 2010. During the research it was worked with a sample of 50 older adults. It started from the scientific problem, which psychosocial factors, enhancers of suicidal behavior are present in older adults belonging to grandparents home in Ciego de Ávila? To respond to the objectives was applied a questionnaire, the scale to assess the level of attitude toward the suicide attempt, sentences completion test (Rotter), self-assessment scale, the geriatric depression scale, the scale of psychosocial risk, perception test of family functioning and a re-test interview; that allowed to conclude that 42.0% of elderly had a high level of attitude toward the suicidal intent; psychological factors that were most often are: depression, inadequate self-assessment, unmet needs, anxiety, conflict and grief; macrosocial factors, dissatisfaction in everyday activities, loss of loved ones, isolation and inactivity; the microsocial factors of minor appearance were affection, harmony and cohesion.
