Longitude of the penis and testicular volume in children of 5 to 9 years old
Abstract
Introduction: the length of the penis and testicular volume are body measurements that reflect the growth of the human being and the advent of puberty, but they are also manifestations of certain pathological alterations.
Objective: to evaluate the length of the penis and testicular volume in children from five to nine years of age.
Method: a cross-sectional, observational and descriptive study was carried out in a universe of 99 male children, between five and nine years of age, residents of People's Council No.3 and belonging to the Teaching Polyclinic "Luis Enrique de la Paz Reyna" from Yara municipality, Granma province. The length of the penis was measured with a graduated ruler and the testicular volume was calculated by the Lambert formula.
Results: the majority of the patients were eight years of age, average weight of 27,3 Kg and average height of 1,22 m. The greater variability of the testicular volume compared to the mean was observed in nine-years-old children for right and left testicles, respectively. No statistically significant differences were found between the higher right testicular volume and mean testicular volumes. The length of the penis corresponded to the ages of the patients and varied among those with nine years of age.
Conclusions: the length of the penis and testicular volume in the children examined were in accordance with the internationally established values for these ages. The variations observed in nine-year-olds are explained by the proximity of pubertyDownloads
