Clinical-epidemiological characterization of patients with COVID-19 treated in an isolation center
Abstract
Introduction: isolation centers were of great importance in times of COVID-19, to avoid the chain of infections.
Objective: to characterize the clinical-epidemiological situation of patients admitted to the “Raúl de Aguiar” isolation center in Niquero, Granma during the months of June-September 2021.
Methods: a descriptive, cross-sectional observational study was carried out with a universe of 1882 contacts or suspects of COVID-19. The variables were analyzed: age, sex, epidemiological history, comorbidities, symptoms and final condition at discharge.
Results: women predominated (53.19 %) and the age group between 42 and 61 years (34.54 %). Having had contact with a positive case (87.25 %), was the most frequent epidemiological history. A history of good health predominated (55.00 %) and the most frequently reported symptom was headache (58.50%). The majority of patients were discharged due to clinical improvement (92.72 %).
Conclusions: the implementation of the isolation center constituted an option for the care of people affected with COVID-19 in the municipality and made it possible to characterize the patients held there.
