Knowledge on buccal health of the primary attention personnel of the Northern Polyclinic of Ciego de Avila

A descriptive observational cross-sectional study was conducted, involving 304 health workers from the Northern Polyclinic of Ciego de Avila, such study was aimed at evaluating some aspectos related to buccal health, with this aim, a questionnaire was administered in an interview form by authoress of the investigation. It revealed that the interviewees knew about the inportance of teeth for mastication as well as for aesthetic purpose, that dental decay and periodontal disease are bucal diseases, wich are identified by pain and observation, and about bleeding and inflamation in the second case. They know about the relationship between general and buccal health, atlhough they can not discern between them; they know about how important flouride is in the prevention of tooth decay, however not knowing what it really is. The population involved in the study correlates the eating of confitures and tid-bits With dental decay and overweight. Their knowledge about buccal health is poorly acceptable, a situation which can be modified by using an educational program.Downloads
