Abstract

An observational descriptive study was done with the aim of establishing the behaviour of peribulbar blockade in cataract surgery. Fifty adult patients ASA I and II scheduled in an elective way, the ones classified as ASA III were excluded. An anesthesia mixture was used with 5ml of lidocaine 2% and 5ml of bupivacaine 0.5%. We found an age older than 50 years where the ages higher than 70 years; 52% of patients has comparated chronic illness (ASA II), the rist were healthy (ASA I). The blockade was complite in 14 patients, satisfactory in 28, well in 8 and regular in 2 cases inteocular preasure increased considerably after the ingestion and was normalized with oculopressure within the advese effects and more important complications that presented: chemasis, palpebral edema, eechymosis and sinusal bradycardia in two patients there were stability in the vital signs except in two cases mentioned in whom the heart rate decreased below 50 lpm. The duration of the sensitive blockade was of 12 +-1.3 hr and that of the motor of 10 +-1.5hr. All patients were satisfied and only in one case there was insatisfaction of the surgeon.
