Quality Control of the Culture Media in Sanitary Microbiology
Keywords:
CULTURE MEDIA, QUALITY CONTROLAbstract
Within the implementation of quality insurance plans at the Sanitary Microbiology laboratories one of the primary elements is the quality control of the culture media, taking into account that they constitute the basis of all the precesses carried out at these institutions. That`s why, an analysis is made of the work done at the Ciego de Avila Sanitary Microbiology Laboratory from the month of October 1998 to May of the year 2000; with the implementation of the aforementioned quality control plan of the culture media. Such program has no predecessor in our province comprising the following phases: adquisition of technical staff, training in the culture media biological control techniques, organization of the technical work of the culture media area, organization of the sterilizer area, remodeling of a room for the culture media biological control, the making of the Operation Standardized Procedures and the Promotion of the control work.
Until may, 2000, as many as 14 isolation media (6 liquid and 8 solid) have been controlled and 10 differential media from the Commercial Companies: (OXOID and BIOCEN) as well as the media cultured at the very laboratory.
The contribution to increase the work quality at the Sanitary Microbiology Laboratory and for the reasons expressed they should be put into practice at other Microbiology laboratories on the province and throughout the country.
