Morbilidad por accidentes en pacientes pediátricos hospitalizados en el último quinquenio.

Abstract

Los accidentes son uno de los problemas de Salud Pública más importantes en todo el mundo porque ocasionan una elevada mortalidad y discapacidades permanentes. El propósito de este estudio fue conocer el comportamiento de algunas variables epidemiológicas de los pacientes pediátricos ingresados por accidentes en nuestro servicio, para poder realizar actividades exitosas encaminadas a disminuirlos .El  período estudiado comprendió desde el primero de enero del 2001 al 31 de diciembre del 2005 con un total de 925 pacientes, sin encontrarse diferencia marcada en número de accidentes en los 5 años, los meses de mayor afectación fueron agosto y diciembre, el grupo de edad más afectado fue el de los preescolares (47,56 %) y el sexo masculino, el lugar de mayor ocurrencia fue en el hogar, y de los mecanismos, el tóxico resultó el que más casos aportó (55,12 %), aunque se encontró que en el período vacacional hay mayor accidentabilidad por traumas mecánicos.
