Evaluation of the attention control system in HIV positive men who have sex with men

Introduction: the evaluation of attentional processes is a key element for determining the cognitive profile of HIV-positive people.
Objective: to analyze the results of screening tests of the attention control system in HIV positive men who have sex with men from the municipality of Ciego de Ávila.
Methods: descriptive cross-sectional study carried out between September 2014 and May 2015. It worked with 80 patients from four health areas of Ciego de Ávila municipality, who met the inclusion criteria. Some demographic, clinical and humoral variables were studied, as well as evaluative of the attentional process: mental flexibility (trace test part B), impulsivity control (loops series) and inhibition of irrelevant automatisms (Porteus maze test). The ethical precepts were fulfilled.
Results: the average time of the disease evolution was 58 months, the average age was 37,1 years. The age group between 30 and 34 years (17,50 %) and the upper middle level (52,50 %) predominated. Most maintained antiretroviral treatment for between 13 and 120 months (74,19 %) and 54,29 % had a viral load count below 1 000 copies/ml. Regarding the tests, 55,00 % showed disruption; regarding the tests, 55,00 % showed disruption;42,50 % pathological coping and only 18,75 % showed pathological execution rates.
Conclusions: the average age was 37,1 years and the disease evolution was 58 months. The upper middle level of schooling predominated. The studied patients showed an attentional performance between deficient and disruptive.Downloads
