Risk factors associated with chronic kidney disease

Introduction: Chronic kidney disease is a global public health problem that has increased significantly over time due to the impact of risk factors on kidney function.
Objective: To analyze the risk factors associated with chronic kidney disease in patients aged 40 to 60 years receiving care in the nephrology department of the "Antonio Lenin Fonseca" Hospital during 2023.
Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with a population of 81 patients, from which a conventional sample of 71 was obtained. Sociodemographic variables and risk factors for chronic kidney disease were analyzed. A data collection form was used, and percentage was used to summarize the information.
Results: The study revealed a predominance of female patients (54.90 %) aged 56 to 60 years (80.30 %). High blood pressure was the most common comorbidity, accounting for 60.60 % of the patients, while 43.70 % of the patients had a progression time of one to three years after diagnosis.
Conclusions: Analysis of the risk factors found in this population confirms the need to explore the sociodemographic characteristics of patients (advanced age, female sex, homemaking) and the presence of diabetes and high blood pressure for better control of chronic kidney disease.
