Morphometric indicators predictors of mortality in patients with spontaneous lobar intracerebral hemorrhages
Abstract
Introduction: annually about two million people in the world suffer spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhages. In the General Teaching Hospital "Roberto Rodríguez Fernández" of Morón, spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage is the entity of highest mortality among cerebrovascular diseases and, although there are well-established prognostic criteria most of them are based on clinical elements.
Objective: to determine morphometric indicators predictors of mortality in patients with spontaneous lobar intracerebral hemorrhage.
Method: a prospective correlational study was carried out at the General Teaching Hospital "Roberto Rodríguez Fernández" of Morón, from January 2009 to December 2010. The universe was composed of 67 patients older than 18 years with spontaneous lobar intracerebral hemorrhage determined by computed axial tomography. Morphometric analysis of tomographic imaging was carried out and morphometric variables were correlated with the status at hospital discharge of patients to determine the morphometric indicators predictors of mortality.
Results: dimension morphometric indicators of bleeding denoted greater likelihood that the patient will evolve unfavorably and die; meanwhile, the analysis of morphometric indicators of shape showed that in patients who died the value range of elliptical shape was closer to 0 than in patients discharged alive. The confidence intervals of the arithmetic mean of the density of the hemorrhage had higher values in patients discharged deceased.
Conclusions: through the determinated morphometric indicators were identified patients with increased risk of mortality by spontaneous lobar intracerebral hemorrhage.Downloads
