The universe consisted of all the women who had low birth weight in the years 2012-2013.
Results: the North Area Health was the most affected; low maternal weight at the time of recruitment, short size, inadequate weight gain during pregnancy and anemia, as well as a history of having had a previous low, pregnant smokers weight, hypertension, urinary and vaginal infections, twinning and intrauterine growth restriction showed statistically significant association with low birth weight.
Conclusions: in the study period the significant relationship between premature and low birth weight (OR 7.78, p: 0.0000) was observed, so it is concluded that preterm birth was the main cause of low birth weight in Ciego de ÁvilaDownloads
