Abstract

Introduction: in dilated cardiomyopathy the beta-blocker therapy produces favorable functional effects through changes in the expression of genes that regulate myocardial contractility and pathological hypertrophy.

Objective: to evaluate the prognosis of patients with dilated cardiomyopathy treated with β-blockers by a set of parameters obtained in the initial echocardiographic examination in the outpatient adult Cardiology of “Dr. Antonio Luaces Iraola” Universitary Hospital of Ciego de Ávila. Method: an evaluation study of technologies and services was carried out during September 2011 to September 2013. The study group consisted of 37 patients. It was worked with the whole universe and all patients met the inclusion criteria.

Results: males and ages ranging from 41 years onwards in both sexes were the predominant. A statistically significant relationship between the majority of analyzed echocardiographic variables was existed with the improvement in ventricular function and diastolic diameters of the left ventricular in patients although it was noted that the initial value of the ejection fraction of the left ventricular was not associated with this improvement (p>0,05). The initial degree of diastolic dysfunction had statistical relationship (p<0,05) with clinical and echocardiographic improvement. Conclusions: Prognostic models created showed good validity index, positive and negative predictive value for each and every analyzed variables
