Acute telogen effluvium and COVID-19: new cutaneous manifestations of SARS-CoV-2 infection

Acute telogen effluvium is a term that refers to a non-scarring alopecic condition characterized by the precipitation of a large number of hair follicles in the resting phase or telogen phase and the sudden arrest of the anagen and catagen phase of the follicle. . hairy which causes excessive hair loss. According to the literature, this can be associated with harmful events such as systemic diseases, exposure to drugs, viral and bacterial infections, stress, fever, weight loss, childbirth, nutritional deficiencies, inflammatory disorders of the scalp, among others that have been incorporated daily as is. the case of SARS-CoV-2 infection.
