Introduction: unicystic ameloblastoma presents particular morphological pictures, and its recurrence is lower compared to conservative therapy.
Objective: to present a case of unicystic ameloblastoma in the maxillary.
Case presentation: a 41-year-old male patient with a history of epilepsy. He presented discomfort and increased volume in the right anterior maxillary region, and went to the dentist. In the simple periapical intraoral radiography, a radiolucent, rounded image was observed, with precise limits between the right upper lateral incisor (12) and the right upper canine (13), for which the affected person was referred to a secondary health care center. For the exceresis of the cystic process and the tooth involved, general nasotracheal anesthesia was applied and an intraoral approach was carried out. The histopathological study of the lesion revealed a unicystic ameloblastoma.
Conclusions: the completion of the necessary complementary studies, and the opportune surgical intervention allowed the favorable evolution of the patient's condition after the operation. The histopathological analysis of the surgical specimen revealed an odontogenic tumor that, if not treated in time, has a high degree of recurrence.
