Punción pleural y aspiración. Opción terapéutica en el neumotórax espontáneo.

Abstract

Esta entidad aparece con relativa frecuencia en nuestro servicio de urgencias y afecta predominantemente hombres jóvenes.  Son numerosos los trabajos parciales sobre la efectividad terapéutica de un determinado tratamiento, pero escasas las publicaciones que ofrecen una visión integral de esta enfermedad, aun con el advenimiento y creciente desarrollo de la videocirugía.  Se realizó un estudio observacional descriptivo para conocer los resultados de la punción pleural y aspiración en el tratamiento del neumotórax espontáneo con un colapso pulmonar entre 26-50% de todos los pacientes atendidos en el servicio de Cirugía General de nuestro hospital, en el período comprendido de 1985 a 1999, ambos inclusive.  El hábito de fumar estuvo presente en el 83,9% de los pacientes, los síntomas predominantes fueron el dolor, la disnea y la tos.  El tratamiento inicial aplicado a la totalidad de los casos fue la punción pleural y aspiración, que resultó curativa en el 70,9% de los enfermos, 18 pacientes (29,1%) no curaron, siendo la principal complicación la inexpansibilidad pulmonar.
