Incidencia del habito de fumar en la aterosclerosis de miembros inferiores.
Abstract
Se realizó un estudio descriptivo transversal de una muestra de 46 arterias de la pierna obtenidasquirúrgicamente de los sujetos amputados en el servicio de Angiología y Cirugía Vascular del Hospital
General Provincial Docente “Manuel Ascunce Domenech” de Camagüey en el período de enero de
1998 a diciembre del 2000. Nuestro objetivo general fue caracterizar la arteriopatía periférica en sujetos
fumadores y no fumadores. Como objetivo específico nos propusimos clasificar los pacientes
amputados según edad, sexo, el grado de lesión aterosclerótica, y comparar cualitativa y
cuantitativamente las arterias de los sujetos fumadores y no fumadores. De los 46 pacientes
estudiados, 35 eran fumadores (76%). Predominó en la serie el sexo masculino, para un 63%, las
edades mayores de 60 años para un 80%. Los individuos fumadores tenían una superficie intimal
afectada por aterosclerosis, mayor que la superficie intimal sana; el hábito de fumar desvió a la derecha
las lesiones ateroscleróticas.
