Morbimortalidad por cetoacidosis diabética en la unidad de cuidados intensivos
Abstract
Se realizó un estudio descriptivo para caracterizar la morbilidad y mortalidad por cetoacidosis diabéticaen la sala de Cuidados Intensivos del Hospital Provincial Manuel Ascunce Domenech de Camagüey,
los datos fueron procesados en una microcomputadora utilizando el paquete de programas estadísticos
Microstat; el universo ascendió a 72 pacientes, predominando los comprendidos en los grupos de
edades entre 16 y 35 años (58%) y el sexo femenino (66.6%). Las infecciones fueron la primer causa
desencadenante (33.3%), seguida por los errores en la administración del tratamiento (25%) y como
forma de debut de la diabetes (20.8%). La insulinoterapia (37.5%) y la combinación de insulina con
hipoglicemiantes orales (16.66%) constituyeron las formas de tratamiento que llevaban más de la mitad
de los pacientes. Los vómitos (75%), el dolor abdominal (54.1%) y el estupor ligero (50%) fueron los
síntomas y signos más representativos de todos los encontrados con más del 50%. La hiperglicemia,
el bicarbonato sérico bajo y la acidemia con el 79,16%, el 70.83% y al 66.66% respectivamente fueron,
en se orden, los hallazgos de laboratorio más evidentes. Sólo el 20.84% de pacientes fallecieron, siendo
el tromboembolismo pulmonar la principal complicación de estos con el 8.33%.
