Morbilidad oftalmológica en hogares de ancianos en la provincia Ciego de Ávila
Abstract
Se realizó un estudio observacional descriptivo con el objetivo de diagnosticar enfermedadesoftalmológicas y precisar la conducta a seguir en pacientes mayores de 60 años, internos en cinco
hogares de ancianos de la provincia Ciego de Ávila durante el periodo, enero-marzo del 2006. La
muestra la constituyeron 229 pacientes que cumplieron los criterios de inclusión, a los cuales se les
realizó interrogatorio y examen físico oftalmológico. Predominaron las edades entre 75–84 años para
ambos sexos, el sexo masculino y el color de piel blanca. Las enfermedades oftalmológicas más
frecuentemente diagnosticadas fueron la catarata y el pterigión. La gran mayoría de las enfermedades
no habían sido diagnosticadas anteriormente
