Introduction: research on COVID-19 should be based on clinical and epidemiological data records, and the specific contexts of each region. This would make it possible to better identify the characteristics and consequences of the disease.
Objective: to analyze the clinical and epidemiological situation of COVID-19 in the Camagüey province from March to May 2020.
Methods: a cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out in the province of Camagüey during the first outbreak of the pandemic. The universe was made up of the 48 patients confirmed with the SARS-CoV-2 virus in this territory. The epidemiological information was obtained from the records of the Provincial Directorate of Public Health and the Provincial Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology. The daily reports on acute respiratory infections and the minutes of the technical meetings of the temporary working group for COVID-19 were taken into account. Ethical precepts were met.
Results: 37,50 % of the patients positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus were between 40 and 59 years old and lived in the North (27,08 %), Central (18,75 %), North Florida (12,50 %), and Foresighted (10,42 %). 35,40 % of the cases were asymptomatic. The predominant symptoms were: cough (50,00 %), runny nose (35,40 %) and fever (29,20 %). Arterial hypertension was the most identified antecedent (19,00 %).
Conclusions: the results of this analysis are part of the historical memory of the pandemic stage in the territory. The research provided information to develop future research on the diseaseDownloads
