Preventive dental care in children under 19 years of age in Ciego de Ávila in the five-year period 2014-2018
Abstract
Introduction: in Cuba, preventive dental care for children and adolescents is carried out according to indicators to be met by the health services.
Objective: to describe the fulfillment of three indicators of preventive dental care in the population under 19 years of age in the Ciego de Ávila province in the 2014-2018 five-year period.
Methods: a descriptive cross-sectional observational study was carried out. It worked with the estimated total annual population of those under 19 years of age. The information was compiled from existing models in the Department of Medical Records and Health Statistics. The data were summarized in tables with the indicators: ratio, absolute and relative frequency. The ethical precepts were fulfilled.
Results: although the two applications of fluoride lacquer between one and four years were not fulfilled, those carried out by each child in 2014 (1,47) and 2015 (1,49) were the most approximate. The application of 16 annual rinses of fluoride solution between five and 14 years was not fulfilled either. However, in 2014 it was close to what was projected (14,64). In the group of 15 to 18 years, the nine mouthwashes were not exceeded. The control of dental plaque between five and 14 years was exceeded in 2015 (108,13 %), 2017 (112,54 %) and 2018 (117,14 %), and approached in 2014 (95,83 %) and 2016 (97,10 %). However, between 15 and 18 years, it did not reach 45,00 % in any year.
Conclusions: the results show non-compliance in the three indicators of preventive dental careDownloads
