Consideraciones clínico epidemiológicas del glaucoma crónico simple en el área norte del municipio Ciego de Ávila.

Abstract

Se estima que la ceguera causada por el glaucoma primario de ángulo abierto excede los 3 millones de casos mundialmente, esta enfermedad puede prevenirse con tratamiento en los primeros períodos. Se realizó un estudio observacional descriptivo de corte transversal con el objetivo de describir algunas consideraciones clínico epidemiológicas del glaucoma primario de ángulo abierto en el Área de Salud Norte del municipio Ciego de Ávila, en el período comprendido de enero a diciembre del 2009. La muestra quedó conformada por 143 pacientes con diagnóstico de glaucoma a los que se les realizaron diferentes exámenes. En el 15% de los pacientes estudiados se confirmó el diagnóstico, predominó el sexo femenino, las edades de 60 y más años, y el color de piel negra. El factor de riesgo ocular más frecuente fue la miopía y el general la hipertensión arterial. El 100% de los pacientes presentaron aumento de las excavaciones papilares por encima de 0.6 como la alteración del nervio óptico. El valor de glaucomatosos obtenido se encuentra dentro de la cifra promedio de prevalencia a nivel mundial, los factores de riesgo más frecuentes fueron la miopía y la hipertensión arterial; la alteración del nervio óptico que predominó fue la excavación papilar
