Eventos toxicológicos en edad pediátrica atendidos en el Centro para la Salud, Desarrollo e Información Toxicológica

Abstract

Se realizó un estudio observacional descriptivo de tipo retrospectivo del período 2005-2010, de todas las llamadas telefónicas efectuadas al Centro para la Salud Desarrollo e Información Toxicológica de la provincia Ciego de Ávila, que implicaron información toxicológica urgente en edad pediátrica, para conocer el comportamiento de las intoxicaciones agudas y sus principales características y de esta forma proponer medidas preventivas y de capacitación del personal médico y población para disminuir la ocurrencia por estos eventos. Se consideraron las variables sexo, grupos de edades, agente causal, circunstancias de las intoxicaciones, vía de administración del tóxico y nivel de atención del paciente. En las edades pediátricas la mayor frecuencia de casos se concentró entre 1-4 años, predominó en todos los grupos etáreos el sexo masculino, la vía de exposición que prevaleció fue la ingestión y los accidentes como circunstancia. Los agentes causales más frecuentes de las intoxicaciones agudas fueron los medicamentos y la atención primaria de salud, específicamente los policlínicos los lugares de mayor solicitud de información.
