Nueva perspectiva para el manejo de la leptospirosis en la comunidad

Abstract

La incidencia de casos confirmados de leptospirosis fue de 100 para una población de sospechosos de 122 en el período de enero 1998 -- marzo 2002 en Venezuela. La distribución estacional fue caracterizada por alta incidencia en Agosto -Octubre y la distribución según la edad el grupo con mayor afectación fue el comprendido entre 25 - 34 años de edad. El 82% de los casos eran laboratorio confirmados y el 18% - diagnosticado por síntomas clínicos e higiénico epidemiológico. Etiológicamente los serogrupos que predominaban fueron los L. icterohaemorrhagiae, pomona y canicola. Los animales que fungieron como reservorio fundamentalmente fueron las ratas, ratones, cerdos y perros. Nuestro trabajo demostró que con el ingreso en el hogar con un debido seguimiento por parte del área de salud la relación costo beneficio mostraría resultados favorables y se prescindirían de numerosos recursos de alto valor para el país.
