Introduction: colonoscopy is a surgical procedure of high diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic value, in which acupuncture surgical analgesia is used as one of the methods evaluated.
Objective: to evaluate the effectiveness of acupuncture surgical analgesia in patients attended in the gastroenterology service.
Methods: an experimental study was carried out with random assignment of patients to two groups in proportion 1:1. The population of group I consisted of 100 patients, with an indication for colonoscopy, treated at the gastroenterology service of the General Hospital “Dr. Juan Bruno Zayas Alfonso”, from Santiago de Cuba, from May 2017 to March 2019, which met the research criteria. Group I received treatment with acupuncture surgical analgesia and group II received conventional drug treatment. The variables age, sex, pain, recovery time, adverse effects, and general effectiveness of the technique were studied.
Results: in the perioperative period, 96,00 % of the patients in group I did not present pain, while in the postoperative period this proportion reached 100,00 %, but not in group II. All patients treated with acupuncture surgical analgesia recovered quickly; only two (4,00 %) presented adverse effects.
Conclusions: the effects of acupuncture surgical analgesia in performing colonoscopies in patients with gastroenterological conditions are slightly higher than those of medication in terms of absence of pain, shorter recovery time and infrequent presentation of adverse effectsDownloads
