Abstract

Los accidentes del hogar constituyen un problema de salud. Con el objetivo de estudiar la morbilidad por accidentes en el hogar en los menores de 18 años perteneciente al área de salud “Máximo Gómez Báez” del municipio Chambas en el período comprendido desde el 1ro de enero del 2006 y el 31 de diciembre del 2006, se realizó este estudio observacional descriptivo. El universo de estudio estuvo conformado por la población infantil que se accidentó en el área en el período antes mencionado; constituida por 162 niños, siendo la primera causa de dichos accidentes la ingestión de sustancias tóxicas con un 28.4%, seguido de las caídas con un 25.3%. Además se pudo conocer que el grupo de edad más afectado fue el de 1-4 años (50.6%) con predominio del sexo masculino (52.5%). También pudimos conocer que la mayoría de los accidentes ocurrieron en la cocina bajo el cuidado de las madres y siempre estuvieron presentes factores de riesgos modificables.
