Abstract

Carlos Juan Finlay y Barres fue una de las grandes figuras de la Academia de Ciencias Médicas, Físicas y Naturales de la Habana en toda su historia. Ingresó a esta corporación científica el 14 de julio de 1872 y en su seno dio a conocer su trascendental descubrimiento sobre la transmisión de las enfermedades por vectores en 1881. En esta ilustre institución tuvo una activa participación científica en múltiples campos entre ellos el relacionado con la medicina legal y es precisamente a través de esta faceta que se vincula a la historia local avileña.
