HIV/AIDS: prevention and late diagnoses. Morón 1986-2011.
Abstract
Objective: Characterize the new cases of late diagnoses in people with HIV/AIDS, and possiblefailure of prevention in the Health Primary Assistance, in Moron, from 1986 to 2011. Method: A
descriptive cross sectional study was carried out; the information was obtained from the national data
base of VIH/AIDS cases in the Ministry of Public Health. Results and Discussion: Between 54 of the
new cases, 10 were late diagnoses, it represents the 18,5%, increasing the cases from the year 2000, with small amount in 2004, 2008 and 2011, affecting more the 26-30 age group (5,8%) and more than 60 years old (3,7%). The south health area was the one with more number of cases (60%), and the South Popular council (40%); the masculine sex was the most affected (80%) and within them, men who have sex with men 70%. The most important symptoms were loss of appetite and fever (90%). As main entities, lymphoma represent the 40%, following by the Cryptococcosis with 30%. 30% died, 20% of them in the year 2005, and 10% in the year 2003. There is a 70% of survival, the 60% less
than 1 year (diagnosis of the last year), and 10%, between 11 and 15 years. Conclusions: Problems with the work of Health Primary Assistance were detected with regard to the functioning of the National Program of Prevention the Sexually Transmitted Infections-HIV/AIDS.
