Comportamiento clínico y epidemiológico del glaucoma primario de ángulo abierto en familiares de pacientes glaucomatosos
Abstract
Se realizó un estudio observacional, descriptivo, transversal, donde se examinaron 241familiares de pacientes glaucomatosos para determinar el comportamiento clínico y
epidemiológico del glaucoma primario de ángulo abierto, en el período comprendido de
enero a diciembre de 2009. La muestra quedó conformada por 153 consanguíneos, según
los criterios de inclusión, exclusión y salida del estudio. Se sometieron a un interrogatorio
y examen físico oftalmológico. El grupo de glaucomatosos ocupó la quinta parte de la
muestra. La mayor cantidad de afectados cursaban por la séptima década de su vida, con
ligero predominio del sexo masculino y más de la mitad de ellos con color de la piel no
blanca. Los hermanos prevalecieron por encima de padres e hijos. Las alteraciones
papilares que predominaron fueron el rechazamiento vascular nasal entre los
glaucomatosos y la excavación papilar menor a 0,3 en los sospechosos. La presión
intraocular se mantuvo dentro de la normalidad entre los sospechosos y elevada en los
glaucomatosos. Casi la totalidad de la muestra conservó una buena agudeza visual y en
cuanto a las alteraciones campimétricas sobresalieron las iniciales entre los portadores de
glaucoma Más de la mitad de los pacientes glaucomatosos se encontraban en el estadio
incipiente de la enfermedad.
