Design of an educational intervention to prevent and control violence against elderly in a population of Ciego de Ávila
Abstract
Violence against the elderly is rampant today, causing serious consequences in the family, the society has increased the standard of living and this has enabled the presence of elderly people at home that sometimes are not adequately attended by the cohabitants. In the present investigation violent acts directed against elderly from the North area of Ciego de Ávila, to design an intervention to decrease these events are also identified. The method was comparative observational of 402 subjects who constituted the population. The data were processed in SPSS program, frequencies and percentage were calculated. A sample of 100 people was obtained and 32 of them were victims of violence, it was observed that the most vulnerable were married women aged 80 years or over, they are subjected mainly to verbal violence. The intervention was designed to prevent and control abuse against elderly and an appropriate use of language was included to meet these people, it emphasizes on the covert form of violence that underlies in verbal attitudes and default tasks required in the enforcement attention to these subjects at advanced ages of life.Downloads
